Product Description
Why practice yoga or Yin Yoga in particular? YinSights, a new book by Bernie Clark, has the answers. In YinSights, Clark explores the benefits of yoga, as viewed by both the Eastern and Western worlds and relates how it affects the body and mind. Although more and more students are embracing the Yin-side of yoga, Yin Yoga is still relatively unknown. Filling a void in yoga literature, YinSights serves as a practical guide for students interested in understanding Yin Yoga. YinSights is divided into two main sections. The first investigates the benefits of yoga on the physical body, the energetic body, and the mind/emotional body. Clark presents three points of view – those of the yogis in India, the Daoists in China, and the medical and scientific researchers of the West. The second section explores the practice of Yin Yoga in detail, and several flows are offered each with different themes. Slower versions of the normally active or yang Sun Salutations are provided, as well as even gentler ways to stimulate the flow of prana, chi, or energy. While YinSights illustrates how to practice Yin Yoga, it is not just for those seeking knowledge about Yin Yoga in particular. The book also discusses the advantages of all styles of yoga and will be of interest to every yoga student. “Bernie Clark’s Yinsights is one of the best yoga resources now available, no matter what your preferred style of practice.” – Paul Grilley, author of Yin Yoga

Product Description

The former fitness editor of Men’s Health magazine presents the ultimate no-excuses workout book for time-pressed men and women at every fitness level

For most people, the hardest hurdle to overcome in following a fitness regimen is simply finding the time to do it. But as this book shows, it is possible to burn fat, build muscle, and stay fit—no matter how much (or little) time one has! That’s the promise fitness expert Myatt Murphy makes in this fabulous new exercise guide—the first book that offers a wide range of workouts catered to any schedule.

Workouts are organized by how many days a week individuals have to exercise, and subdivided into 10-, 20-, 30-, 45-, and 60-minute exercise blocks. There are four variations on each of the above regimens—one for building lean muscle, one for weight loss, one for muscle power, and one that gives the best of all three. All in all, there are 120 workout choices, each specifically created to match the exerciser’s current goals! Murphy shows how to complete any workout in a time-efficient way and how to compensate for limited time with different exercises that will keep muscles challenged. More than 250 photographs illustrate the exercises, and sound nutritional tips round out this all-new approach to fitness—destined to be the workout bible for countless busy people.

Product Description
A lead science writer for The New York Times—and lifelong yoga practitioner—examines centuries of history and research to scrutinize the claims made about yoga for health, fitness, emotional wellbeing, sex, weight loss, healing, and creativity. He reveals what is real and what is illusory, in the process exposing moves that can harm or even kill. Five years in the making, The Science of Yoga draws on a hidden wealth of discovery, drama, and surprising fact to cut through the fog that surrounds contemporary yoga and to show—for the first time—what is uplifting and beneficial and what is delusional, flaky, and dangerous. At heart, it illuminates the risks and rewards.

Broad describes yoga as a burgeoning global industry that attracts not only curious scientists but millions of true believers and charismatic hustlers. He takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of unknown yoga that goes from old archives in Calcutta to world capitals of medical research, from storied ashrams to spotless laboratories, from sweaty yoga studios with master teachers to the cozy offices of yoga healers. In the process, he shatters myths, lays out unexpected benefits, and offers a compelling vision of how the discipline can be improved.

The Woman’s Book of Yoga and Health: A Lifelong Guide to Wellness

Posted by admin | Posted in Fitness EBooks | Posted on 21-10-2011

Product Description
The Woman’s Book of Yoga and Health is the first comprehensive book about women’s health issues and how to treat them with yoga. The authors offer a complete yoga program for general health as well as pose sequences that address specific health problems—all in the Iyengar tradition, which targets health needs more than other forms of yoga. For example, in the first part of the book, Patricia Walden has organized three chapters showing yoga poses with clear instructions that tell how to get into each pose and describe its benefits: chapter one is the Essential Sequence for all women, and includes modifications for people who cannot or should not do all the poses; chapter two is the Restorative Sequence for stress relief and relaxation; chapter three contains advanced poses that energize and tone.

The second part is presented in four sections that broadly represent the stages of a woman’s life: teen years and early twenties, later twenties and thirties, midlife, and wisdom years. Each section contains chapters offering specific information about a particular health issue from author Linda Sparrowe, as well as sequences of yoga poses from Patricia Walden that address the problem. For example, the back care chapter includes information about common back problems and their causes (scoliosis, arthritis, lordosis, sciatica, kyphosis, among others) with an emphasis on: emotional and psychological roots of some back problems; physiological information about the spine and back muscles; general information about how yoga addresses different areas of the back; and finally, Patricia Walden’s sequences of poses that target different back problems with the goal of not only relieving back pain but of strengthening, and healing old injuries and misalignments.

Sections of the book include:

   •  Teens and Early 20s: Eating disorders, menstrual health, immune support
   •  20s and 30s: Back care, pregnancy, headaches
   •  Midlife: Depression, menopause, digestion
   •  Wisdom Years: Osteoporosis, postmenopause, the heart

The final section of the book includes listings of yoga centers, instructional videos, yoga equipment, and where to go for more information about yoga.
