Product Description
This two-volume reference book will present imaging technology currently used in clinics or at experimental stages for diagnosis and/or early detection of various cancers, including anticancer vaccines, surgical techniques, chemotherapy, radiation, and gene therapies. Cancers discussed will include breast, lung, liver, prostate, cervical, brain, gastrointestinal, ovarian, gallbladder, esophageal, head and neck, bronchial, bone, thyroid, pancreatic, lymphoma, melanoma, and multiple myeloma malignancies. Approximately 100 research scientists and clinicians from more than 20 countries will contribute chapters.
. Concentrates on the application of imaging technology to the diagnosis and prognosis of lung and breast carcinomas, the two major world-wide malignancies
. Addresses relationship between radiation dose and image quality
. Discusses the role of molecular imaging in identifying changes for the emergence and progression of cancer at the cellular and/or molecular levels

Product Description
Brachytherapy is the delivery of radiation therapy using sealed sources which are placed as close as possible to the site to be treated. It is applicable for the treatment of tumours where a radiation source can be placed within a body cavity such as the oesophagus or bronchus or where the tumour is accessible to needle or catheter sources being placed within it, such as the head and neck and skin. Brachytherapy has potential applications to most tumour sites. It can be used as primary treatment or in combination with external beam radiotherapy. This book provides practical guidance on the use of brachytherapy. Each chapter provides the reader with a solid background in the physics and dosimetry of brachytherapy followed by practical information on the use of brachytherapy in common disease sites. Whilst low, medium, and high dose rate techniques are covered, emphasis is placed on high dose rate afterloading techniques which are likely to replace most other forms of brachytherapy over the next decade. ABOUT THE SERIES Radiotherapy remains the major non-surgical treatment modality for the management of malignant disease. It is based on the application of the principles of applied physics, radiobiology, and tumour biology to clinical practice. Each volume in this series takes the reader through the basic principles of the use of ionising radiation and then develops this by individual sites. This series of practical handbooks are aimed at physicians both training and practising in radiotherapy, as well as medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiographers and senior nurses.

From the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, this book gives consumers, their families, and clinicians information about antipsychotics that have recently become available. For people with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, antipsychotic medications are the key to recovery. Yet older medications have serious side effects and rarely affect symptoms like lethargy. New antipsychotics have advantages, but they are not for everyone, if only because of their cost. This book helps consumers and their families weigh the pros and cons of switching medications and guides them through the process of switching. For clinicians, it includes technical details on the new medications and their side effects.

Product Description
External beam therapy is the most common form of radiotherapy, delivering ionizing radiation such as high-energy x-rays, gamma rays or electron beams directly into the location of the patient’s tumour. The beam is generated externally, with no radioactive sources placed within the patient’s body. The beams aim at destroying the cancer cells with minimal impact on the surrounding healthy tissue. The radiation oncologist will choose between different ways of administering the beams, such as linear accelerators, cobalt machines, or ortho-voltage x-ray machines. The three distinct stages of simulation, planning and treatment are critical to ensuring the highest rate of success. This book is an essential, practical guide to the use of external beam radiotherapy, highlighting the rapid technological advances made in recent years. It provides a firm background to the physics of external beam radiotherapy, taking the reader through the basic principles and discussing issues such as quality assurance. Experts within each field then expand upon techniques for treatment delivery within each anatomical site, covering indications, treatment and planning.A BOUT THE SERIES Radiotherapy remains the major non-surgical treatment modality for the management of malignant disease, with over 50% of patients receiving treatment at some time during the management of their malignant disease. It is based on the application of the principles of applied physics, radiobiology, and tumour biology to clinical practice. Each volume in this series takes the reader through the basic principles of different types of radiotherapy, and then develops these by individual sites. This series of practical handbooks are aimed at physicians both training and practising in radiotherapy, as well as medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiographers and senior nurses.
