I wish I’d purchased this book when I was first diagnosed with SLE in 1991. This book shows specifically how the disease attacks each organ system, relevant research, and treatment. In essence, it can help the patient know when a sypmtom is serious (e.g., chest pain), and help them know the best questions to ask the rheumatologist to maximize their treatment.
Rating: 5 / 5
This text book is used for the education of medical students and doctors. It’s exhaustive and informative and the best text I have seen on the subject of Lupus. If you want to educate yourself about the many facets of Lupus, this would be an excellent source of information. Some of the topics in the book explain some rare and grizzly things, so don’t get too wrapped up on those things if you’re a patient.

If you’re newly diagnosed, I’d read “The Lupus Book” first, but then get this after. This book has EVERY detail about this disease and it’s manifestations. It isn’t too hard to understand. I definitely recommend this to anyone with Lupus.
