Product Description
The 3rd Edition of this popular atlas offers you a systematic approach to the gross anatomy of the brain, spinal cord, and the brainstem. With an emphasis on major structures and concepts, and a careful selection of photographed sections, explanatory diagrams, and brief text, you’ll find the guidance you need to better understand this complex subject. Unlabelled photographs juxtaposed with faded-out versions of the same photographs with important structures outlined and labelled allows you to view a section as you would in real life.
- Shows unlabelled and labelled photographs and diagrams of brain sections on the same page
- Incorporates diagrams of the functional systems of the CNS with actual brain and spinal cord sections
- Includes a glossary of over 260 terms mentioned in the book that elucidates every part of the atlas
- Features enlarged section photographs that provide increased clarity of structures and detail for easier viewing.
- Includes color in previously black and white photographs in the opening “guided tour” summaries allowing you to follow and interpret what you see more clearly.
- Presents new material on meninges · ventricles · and blood supply to increase your knowledge of brain function and activity.
- Combines substantially expanded clinical coverage with angiograms for a better understanding of the anatomy.
- Provides an illustrated glossary containing 152 color images.
- Offers a bonus CD-ROM of all the images from the book-with and without labels- downloadable to PowerPointT.

I’d recommend The Human Brain: An introduction to its functional anatomy as well. Great texts for an introduction to the human brain.
Rating: 5 / 5
clearly labelled photographs from human sections
high quality images
useful functional imagery with labelled circuits
very user friendly
i have used a number of neuroanatomy texts over years of study and this is my favorite atlas.

Frankly, I am shocked that this book is now out of print. All other neuro atlases I’ve seen are black and white, unclear, and so boring they make my eyes glaze over. This one is filled with COLOR, and clearly goes through the major pathways via schematic webs and actual cross-sections. Every cross-section includes both a drawing and a photographed slide of the brain. The back of the book contains excellent radiographic images with explanations.
My only recommendation for the next edition: When making identifications on the cross-sections, instead of directly labelling each item (ie “VPL of thalamus” or “dentate gyrus”), I would prefer that you just assign each item a number, with a number key in the corner of each page. It is much easier to test yourself this way.

This gives the student interested in Neuroanatomy an atlas for the human brain. Would be a great additional text for a Wet Brain Lab and a viable review for Neuroanatomy exams. I would think that this book would be useful for Neuropsychologists, Neurologists, Neurotologists, and anyone interested in detailed brain anatomy. The additional CD-rom is useful and both Windows and Mac compatible.

some sections are a little weat such as N-histology, however, great illistrations, and easily readable, also the atlas that goes along with the text is a must. I especailly like the section on N-vasulature CSF, also the Thalmus is covered pretty well
