Product Description

A groundbreaking examination of new scientific research that holds the secret to weight loss, increased strength, endurance, memory, and a healthier, longer life

In The Longevity Factor, noted neuroscientist and surgeon Joseph Maroon, M.D., offers the definitive look at recent scientific breakthroughs identifying a group of natural substances — including the much-publicized molecule resveratrol — that can actually activate a specific set of genes in humans that promote a longer, healthier life. These substances, which make red wine, dark chocolate, and green tea good for us, appear to stave off a wide array of age-related diseases and keep us feeling young and vital.

Resveratrol is the centerpiece of headline-making research being conducted at the Harvard Medical School and elsewhere. Only recently, however, have scientists discovered how to isolate resveratrol and concentrate it into an affordable and safe supplement. Already, more than 200 supplements featuring resveratrol have flooded the market, and there are countless more on the way. But which ones work best? What is a consumer to look for on the label? Since resveratrol is a natural substance, can you get enough of it through diet alone, or should you combine diet with a supplement? And what lies on the horizon from the pharmaceutical industry? All those questions and many more are answered in this immensely informative and practical book.

Joseph Maroon offers the first-ever inside look at the amazing research that has led to the discovery of resveratrol and similar substances with the miraculous ability to activate our own longevity genes. He also offers his own diet plan and sound, reader-friendly advice for living a longer, healthier, and more balanced life with or without supplements. The Longevity Factor promises to be the authoritative source for everyone who wants to know more about how we can shift from the current paradigm of aging to a disease-free golden age of health, longevity, and fitness.

Excellent book written in an easy to understand format. Here is a comment from page 70 of his book, which I recommend to anyone interested in health assurance rather than health insurance…the author states: ” Recently, a large nutrition, direct selling company, Shaklee Corporation, working with scientists from the University of Georgia, has created a product containing an extract made from muscadine pomace which is the remaining fruit solids after the water content is extracted. Specifically, they are working with muscadine grape growers in order to secure grapes with large amounts of protective polyphenols including ellagic acid and resveratrol.” I am proud to be a distributor for one of the products Dr. Maroon writes about. Dr. Joseph Maroon is a neurosurgeon, triathlete and author. And for the last 20 years, he’s been the team neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In The Longevity Factor, Dr Maroon explores how nutrition, exercise and resveratrol can activate genes to increase endurance, reaction time and memory.

Resveratrol can be found in red wine and resveratrol supplements. According to Dr. Maroon, resveratrol can help us live longer and healthier. Science is proving it.

As a Shaklee distributor, I’m proud to represent one of the products that Dr. Maroon discusses. In The Longevity Factor, he states, “Recently, a large nutrition, direct selling company, Shaklee Corporation, working with scientists from the University of Georgia, has created a product containing an extract made from muscadine pomace which is the remaining fruit solids after the water content is extracted. Specifically, they are working with muscadine grape growers in order to secure grapes with large amounts of protective polyphenols including ellagic acid and resveratrol. By selecting muscadine grapes and by using a whole grape extraction process, they have reported that their extract has a significantly higher concentration of healthy polyphenols than found in the skins themselves.” Find out more about this product at [...]

Bordeaux and Burgundy red wine seem to prolong the life for the French. The subject of funded research, as a life-extending pill is: Resveratrol (RE).

You saw the 60 minute and Barbara Walter’s interview with Dr. David Sinclair, of Harvard Medical School and Sirtuin. Sinclair is the main advocate for RE. He said you would take 1000 bottles of red wine per day to get the amount of RE to prolong your life.

The book is well written with detailed data and research. Dr. Maroon is highly respected in the academy. I recommend the reading of this book, to understand RE and related anti-aging tips.

Back to RE, Sinclair continues to do experiment in the lab. But there are 100+ companies on website, selling RE now. They don’t seem to wait for Sinclair. Sinclair did experiments on yeast and on mice. But human gene is different. By the time Sinclair proves that human life can truly be prolonged taking RE, it is probably 2014.

But on B. Walter’s show, Sinclair said he took RE for the past three years. Which RE does he take? He did not say. I guess he will live to 100 if you believe him.

I was at Okinawa in Japan. The island where residents live the longest in the world. They did not consume RE as much as the French. Yet, with low stress, fish, fruits, vegetable, a clean living, they age well.

I recommend “Okinawa program”, the book by Drs. Wilcox and Dr. Suzuki, for anyone who want to be centenarians. I visited Dr. Suzuki for his personal tips on anti-aging. You can read these tips in my book review.

Conclusion, Japanese life style is better than the French for a long life.

The Longevity Factor is a critically important book. Our society is going the wrong way and neuroscientist and neurosurgeon Joe Maroon is helping us get back on track. If you follow his advice you will be thinner, smarter, happier and be around long enough to tell people about it. The book reads like a mystery novel, is based on solid science, and makes you want to do things differently to enhance your health. I highly recommend it!!

The doctors teach the bio-chemistry of the body and what is needed to nourish it. They also explain the effects of various supplements, describe the appropriate manufacturing methods for them, and recommend sources for purchase. This book compiles information from a variety of sources into one useful volume.
