The Ortho Problem Solver, Sixth Edition

This is the same book, (The Ortho Problem Solver),
that my local nursery used when I went in with my questions and problems. I am now able to see the problems with my plants, take digital pictures, and then compare with the pictures in the book. This allows me to not only learn to spot the problems including insects, but allows me to develop a plan to correct what I have found. The book also gives the name of the chemicals that should be used to rid the garden of pests and diseases. This book is the latest version and should last many many years. It also includes trees, shrubs, and flowers. Its a wonderful resource for anyone who loves gardening of all types, and for someone who just loves the feel of fresh tilled dirt between their toes, and the satisfaction of watching things grow.

The Ortho Problem Solver is the best general resource for garden and landscape pest problems. It is logically divided into plant and problem sections that are well illustrated and mapped by regions. Since it is published by a leading supplier of home pesticides, the chemical solutions suggested are all products with the Ortho label. My edition is from the 1980s, so many of the suggested products are now off the market or reformulated. That said, this is still the best book I found to help identify problems in my landscape. The chemical controls may change over time, but the bugs and diseases tend to be never-ending issues.

I have used this book in the past and found it to be very helpful. Even though it is a bit expensive it is a valuable resource for any gardner.

We’re been using this book since it was “only” $150 in 1994. It has saved us innumerable trees, shrubs, time, and headaches. I shamelessly over-spent to buy this for my wife’s birthday, and my one regret is not being able to afford it a decade earlier.

This product if very valuable. Plenty of information, much of it not pushing Ortho’s products. Balanced and practical. A good investment for the home or greenhouse gardener.
